Getting started as an instructor.
- Tell us about your course. Use the early-access form — your institution, course, and rough enrollment help us size and schedule onboarding.
- We build your rubric with you. For early partners, we white-glove the first rubric from your solution workbook, and help you bring over any rubrics you already have.
- Run a dry run. We grade your own solution first; it should score full marks before any student work is touched.
- Grade with review. GridGrade grades; you review flagged cases and a sample, and stay the grader of record.
- Return feedback. Students receive per-question feedback with evidence and fix suggestions.
For students.
- What is GridGrade?
- An automated grader your instructor uses for spreadsheet assignments. It reads your actual work — formulas, pivots, Power Query — and gives feedback you can learn from.
- Why did I get this deduction?
- Every deduction shows what your workbook did, why points came off, and how to fix it. If you think a mark is wrong, your instructor can review it — every grade is backed by evidence and is reproducible.
- Was my answer marked wrong just because I did it differently?
- No. GridGrade accepts many valid methods — different formulas, a pivot instead of formulas, different layouts. If your approach is correct, it earns credit. If you believe a valid approach was missed, flag it; that's exactly the kind of signal we act on.
Grades, regrades, and disputes.
- How are disputes handled?
- Because grading is deterministic and every mark carries evidence and the exact location it was found, a dispute is answerable: your instructor can see why and, if needed, fix the rubric and regrade. Regrades are audited, and affected students are re-notified automatically when a visible grade changes.
- Will a regrade change everyone's grade silently?
- No. Regrades re-run only the affected checks, the gradebook export shows exactly who changed, and students are notified only when their visible grade actually changes.
Your data.
Student work is treated as sensitive by default. During our Fall 2026 pilot, grading runs locally on the instructor's machine — no student data goes to any cloud. Third-party AI can be switched off entirely, and the deterministic core stands on its own.
You report it. We tell you when it ships.
Bug, feature idea, or a question about a grade — it goes into a tracked loop, never a black hole. We review every signal, act on it, and when a fix ships you'll see a "you reported this — fixed" note. We never put student names or work into our issue tracker; reports are scrubbed of personal information before a human ever sees them.
